Hi Visitor
I may have covered this previously in brief so I thought it worth providing a little more detail as Analytics is what I would use when redesigning a website. A good example would be a recent redesign of a client's website after accumulating a number of years worth of analytics data. Armed with this information we knew what people looked at, what was of interest to them and what wasn't, very helpful indeed when doing a redesign.
Armed with this information we were able to launch a website that was much cleaner and easier to navigate and provides users with what they want with a few quick mouse clicks.
In this issue...
Bounce Rate
For the home page this is REALLY important, in-fact for any page. It indicates, as a percentage, how many people "bounce" or leave that page without looking at anything else. An extreme case would be 95%, this means that 95% of people looking at that page leave. If this is your home page then that's pretty bad as it means that 95% of people visiting your website simply leave.
So, the lower the bounce rate the better.
Pages/Visit
This indicates how many pages are viewed, on average, by each user.
Simple enough eh...? The more pages visited the better because this means that people are interacting with your website.
Content Overview
This provides a brief overview of the most popular pages on your website. The home page should be top of this list with contact or products/services occupying the 2nd and 3rd positions.
Traffic Sources Overview
This pie chart provides a graphical representation of where your website visitors come from. A good mix here is recommended with about half coming from search engines and the remainder divided up between referring websites and direct traffic.
Direct traffic are people who have your site saved in their favourites or simply navigated directly to your website.
There is much more to Analytics than what I have outlined here such as goal conversions and linking with AdWords but in essence that's pretty much it. If you'd like a more detailed analisys of your analytics then please feel free to get in touch. If you would like to increase the traffic your website receives or the conversion to sales then Analytics can help.
